The Gaming Month Ahead – May 2016

There’s a number of pretty big games out this month – top of the pile though is undoubtedly Uncharted 4 – A Thief’s end. Potentially the final part of Nathan Drake’s adventures (or maybe just Naughty Dog’s part in them). This is PS4’s first really big exclusive since Bloodborne and while nothing is really relying on its success, it would be really nice for the series to go out with a bang. Here’s hoping the game manages to recapture the brilliance of Uncharted 2 and learns from Uncharted 3’s mis-steps. It would also be nice if the multiplayer was as good as UC2. Once upon a time us DPD members used to play that without fail every Tuesday, with Moonhead reliably slaughtering everyone.

Gearbox’s Battleborn is also out this month. While I’m sure most people would prefer Borderlands 3, which is supposed to be up after this, Battleborn offers a loot-shooter experience with PvP as well as PvE and MOBA like skill unlocks during play. From what I played of the Beta it didn’t seem to bad – the humour seemed somewhere between Borderlands 1 and Ratchet and Clank, the characters all look interesting. The actual gunplay felt a little weak though; I’d chalk that up to me using the archer lady, but I heard similar opinions from others.

Total War: Warhammer is the first of a trilogy of fantasy based games using the Total War engine. It’s certainly a perfect match on paper, so this should be a no-brainer for fans of either Total War or Warhammer. Creative Assembly hasn’t had the best of records lately when it comes to smooth launches though, so it might be wise to wait until things have settled a little.

Oh and lets spare a thought for what Digital Foundry cited as the game with the worst frame-rate they’ve ever tested. Lichdom Battlemage. The game came out two years ago on PC to pretty mixed reviews. I sure feel sorry for anyone that gets this on console.
