The Gaming Month Ahead – March 2016

It feels like March is usually a little more glitzy. In years gone by we’d get games like Bloodborne, Mass Effect 3, Titanfall and Infamous Second Son. None of that is to say that this month’s offerings aren’t great, they just don’t seem as major as usual. Well, maybe Division kind of fits that bill.
The Division releases this month after a somewhat…divisive beta. I rather enjoyed its brand of cover-based action with a Defiance-like MMO style world. It certainly looks like it offers a significant amount of game to keep people playing. One of my main worries with it is whether the location can remain interesting enough for the whole game. MMO’s usually spread out to differnt locations in order to provide a varied aesthetic. If Division only takes place in biohazardous New-York, it may become all a little samey.

Hitman comes out this month too, trying to shed the over-used disguise mechanic of the last game, it also ditches any sub-title. For once, it’s just Hitman. Luckily the first game was called Hitman: Agent 47 so hopefully that will stop us from eternally calling this Hitman 2016 (like we’ve had to do with Tomb Raider 2013) IO interactive are trying to take us back to a time before Absolution, in terms of gameplay if not timeline, with more sandbox and less linear missions.

Going almost head to head with Hitman this month is Alekhine’s Gun – or Death to Spies 3. Alekhine’s Gun is set in a rather more interesting Cold War era and features stealth assassination gameplay not too dissimilar to Hitman.

There’s a few noteworthy ports and remasters this month. Heavy Rain HD releases on PS4 with better resolution and textures (though sadly locked to 30fps). Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD releases on WiiU and Hyrule Warriors Legends releases on 3DS) All worth getting if you haven’t played the originals.
