The Gaming Month Ahead – July 2015

F1 2015

Still playing Witcher 3? Arkham Knight? Hopefully you answered yes to one of those, because this month is a little light on content. Vita gets a brace of anime-style RPG’s the 3DS gets Garfield Kart and everyone gets more COD DLC…yeah.

Among the new releases this month is F1 2015 – codemasters go for an all new engine and release only on PC, PS4 and XBone. The game looks pretty as hell, though it will all come down to the handling and modes. It does offer a Pro Season mode which turns off all player assists and the HUD to try and deliver a true F1 experience. Sounds like an enforced Hard Mode – but we’ll see how that turns out.

The month’s other big title is a remaster – the oddly solo God of War 3 Remastered comes out around the middle of the month. Maybe the Master Chief Collection spoiled us a little – but I’m as disappointed by God of War 3 being released on its own as I was about the news that the Gears of War trilogy is also split up in its HD remasters. God of War 3 is particularly jarring as people who jumped from X360 to PS4 have no way of playing God of War 1 and 2 – considering that God of War 3 picks up directly from the end of 2, it’s a bizzare decision to say the least. All the same – God of War 3 was a masterpiece on PS3 and its presented here running at 60fps at full 1080. Personally, I’ll take any excuse to replay that first half hour of the game.

Elsewhere this month, there’s also the rather strange Godzilla game. I confess to not having heard of it before right now. It released in Japan last year and has taken over six months to cross over to the west. Thankfully its not based on the last Godzilla movie with Walter White, sadly it’s not based on the wonderfully strange Godzilla Final Wars. It’s a game of stomping, destroying buildings in slow motion and fighting other large monsters. Pretty much par for the course for Godzilla.
