In recent years the post Christmas lull in games never really happened. In 2011 we had Dead Space 2, Little Big Planet 2 and Mass Effect making the jump to PS3 for the first time. In 2012 we had Soul Calibur V, Neverdead and Final Fantasy XIII-2. 2013 topped them both with Ni No Kuni, DmC, Anarchy Reigns, Strike Suit Zero and The Cave. But this year…well this year we have…Rambo: The Video Game. I didn’t realise anyone was still suffixing their titles with “The Video Game” didn’t that stop happening back in the early nineties? Okay, so there’s a little more than just Rambo.
There’s a few Nintendo mascot spin games – Dr.Luigi on Wii U and Mario Party on 3DS. Tomb Raider the whining reboot comes to PS4 and XBone. Might and Magic X: Legacy comes out of Early Access on PC, finally releasing midway through the month. It follows in the style of classic Might and Magic games and the more recent Legends of Grimrock. There’s also a lot of platform ports. Halo Spartan Assault comes to X360, Don’t Starve jumps to PS4, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation stealth kills its way on to PC, PS3 and X360, Tomb Raider vaults onto PS4 and Xbone, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance slices its way onto PC. Surely everyone’s happy now, right?
Here’s the list in full:
- Don’t Starve (PS4)
- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PC)
- Assassin’s Creed Liberation (PC/PSN/XBLA)
- Spellforce 2: Demons of the Past (PC)
- Dr.Luigi (WiiU)
- Aeterno Blade (3DS)
- Marion Party: Island Tour (3DS)
- Rambo: The Video Game (PS3/X360/PC)
- Halo Spartan Assault (X360)
- Might and Magic X: Legacy (PC)
- Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (PS4/XBone)
- Dragon Ball z: The Battle of Z (PS3/Vita/X360)
So there it is. The run up to march is probably going to start to pack out like usual again, especially with a lot of 8th gen games aiming for that period.
