The Gaming Month Ahead – August

on

Ah, August. The second half of the year is well under way and the games release list is starting to populate once more. Of course if you’re anything like me (and have a great PC) then you’ll have a huge backlog of games to play through bought from the Steam Summer Sale. To make things worse this month is pretty packed with PC goodness.
Dark Souls comes to PC with a special edition. While consoles will get the new content as DLC, the PC Dark Souls offers new areas and bosses and (judging by the low system requirements) a better resolution and frame rate. The long awaited Guild Wars 2 also releases at the tail end of the month. It certainly looks destined to devour even more of your time than Diablo 3 if you’re that way inclined.

Elsewhere Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Darksiders 2 and Sleeping Dogs release across all platforms. Sleeping dogs is the game that would have been True Crime 3 before Activision dumped it (not enough franchise potential apparently) and Squeenix picked it up, further strengthening their western power base. 3DS also gets New Super Mario Bros 2, which should please a lot of Nintendo fans.

And Persona 4: Arena, the storied beat’em’up spin off of the RPG Persona 4, comes to consoles. It should probably be noted that Persona 4 is region locked on PS3, this probably won’t affect most people, but seeing as region locking on PS3 is almost non-existent it probably deserves a mention. Don’t let that dissuade you from purchasing though, it’s all to do with exchange rates between the US and Japan and a different publisher here in Europe. Let’s just hope it doesn’t set a trend.
