The Gaming Month Ahead – March

The build up of games continues this month with another epic monsoon of must-haves. Top of most peoples lists this month is going to be either Mass Effect 3 or Street Fighter X Tekken (possibly both, but they are out on the same day!) Mass Effect 3 hopes to recreate Mass Effect 2’s critical success while exceeding it’s commercial success. A tough order, but EA are no doubt betting on the wider variety of play options (you can play it totally like an action game or an RPG or indeed a mix!) and an online co-op mode to help snag new fans.

Meanwhile Streetfighter X Tekken boasts one of the biggest unique character rosters outside of Warriors Orochi (that would be the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors mash-up) and a game that has had every fighting game fan drooling since its announcement so long ago. I had a chance to play this at the Eurogamer Expo and I am so looking forward to playing it again.

Other releases this month are no smaller with Snake Eater on 3DS, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines all seeing releases this month. For anyone who’s finished Dynasty Warriors Xtreme Legends 7 (Yeah, right!), Warriors Orochi 3 comes out at the end of the month with over a 120 characters! This time guest stars from Ninja Gaiden, Troy and Bladestorm are also featured.

I also had a slight surprise when looking through the new releases this month (it doesn’t happen often) 2009’s X-blades is getting a surprise sequel. Dropping name and the cel shaded, anime look, but keeping the skimpy outfitted protagonist the game sees a near simultaneous worldwide release this month as Blades of Time

Honestly, I’m still playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, but Mass Effect 3 is a day one purchase regardless. Street Fighter X Tekken may have to wait until I’m done with SoulCalibur V (which won’t be long – SCV is a very limited and unbalanced game). Warriors Orochi 3 may also have to wait on Dynasty Warriors Xtreme Legends 7, but Ninja Gaiden 3 may also be a swift purchase. What are you planning on buying right away? Let’s not forget games like Asura’s Wrath and Yakuza: Dead Souls are also coming out this month.
