This is certainly a game that is going to have everyone excited for a while ’round these parts. The very idea of a StreetFighter vs Tekken is amazing enough, coupled with a forthcoming Tekken vs StreetFighter, it’s enough to make fighting fans explode. While nothing has been revealed yet about Tekken vs StreetFighter, other than that it’s being made by Namco Bandai and that devlopment of the two games is entirely seperate (no cross-game chat here) – there has been a good deal about StreetFighter vs Tekken that we’ve learnt. The game was shown at this years Comic Con, running on PS3 hardware already. Yoshinori Ono says it’s your straightforward 8-way lever and 6 button input system; it currently has an assist mode, but Ono wants to make it 2 v 2.
It’s uncertain who will make it into the game beyond what’s been shown, but Ono said that early generation characters were the most likely. So SF2 and Tekken 1 and 2 characters from the look of things. It’ll be interesting to see if Namco approach the character picking in the same way and if they’re also going to go down the tag mode system route. There hasn’t been a decent Tag fighter since Tekken Tag Tournament back from the PS2 launch – so it would be nice to see that finally happen in the most bombastic way possible. With that, have some nice screenies to gawp at.
UPDATE: From an interview with Ono at Comic Con it looks like we won’t be seeing SFxT until at least 2012 (He said two years) and TxSF was confirmed by Namco Bandai to be releasing well after its counter part, putting it around 2013. Ono says to enjoy MvC2 in the meantime – but seriously – was it really necessary to show this surprise this early? Ono told Famitsu not to expect any more details until Captivate 2011. Looks like it’s going to be a long wait. If you’re like me, you’ll erase these last posts from your memory and forget this ever happened…at least until it’s christmas 2011 and SFxT is on the horizon.
