I hope you’ve already watched the embedded video – if not, do that now. Done? Good. Of all the Cross-Overs that Metal Gear has had, from the monkey’s in SnakeEater, to the Assassin’s outfit in Guns of the Patriots, there really was nothing that could have prepared anyone for this. Monster Hunter and Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker. It makes sense – combine the biggest selling game on the PSP with a hugely successful franchise, but the sheer scope is staggering. The Rathalos and the Tigrex in the video easily look as good as they did in Monster Hunter and you get the opportunity to take them down with Rocket Launchers! It’s certainly something I’ve wished on occasion to be able to do in Monster Hunter. The thought of playing 4-player co-op in Peacewalker and being able to take down a Rathalos with guns really does have me quite weak at the knees and has made the game go from interesting to must-purchase. It’ll be interesting to see what (if anything) crosses back over to Monster Hunter Freedom 3.
Apparently familiar tunes from the Monster Hunter series will be present in the game as well and as with MGS4, there will a link with Assassin’s Creed 2 as well. As anyone who’s played the demo will tell you, Peacewalker is shaping up to be a great addition to the MGS saga. Considered by Kojima as the next canon game in the MGS saga, it has a big focus on co-op and sharing. These themes obviously play nicely into the Monster Hunter crossover as it is another game where co-operation is paramount to a successful hunt during the Guild challenges.
